![]() First option is bad for the PTO drive line, the second a b. With the MF, you either did tight turns with the PTO engaged and running, or declutch, PTO in neutral, after the turn, get the PTO back into gear. Brilliant when spraying the orchard or baling hay. ![]() One big advantage over the MF 135 waqs the hand PTO clutch. I used to carry the tools with me, and could sort it out in about 15 minutes if all went well. If you weren't careful you could select two gears at once, which meant that you stopped (naturally), remove gear lever, select correct gear and move the other selector back where it should be, replace the gearlever, and off again. Never had trouble with the back end, but a real nuisance problem with the gear selectors. Pulled well though in the lower gears, with it's inbuilt weight. it had a Perkins AD3-152 motor, same as a MF 135, but it was a much bigger and heavier tractor, so perhaps a bit underpowered. The 154 followed the little BMC diesel, there was a 245, and a larger model, I can't remember the model number. Leylands did indeed follow on from Nuffields.
